In this BBC article with video, a Chimpanzee named Ayumu at Japan’s Kyoto University, can recognise numbers to the extent of ordering them by value. But more astoundingly Ayumu is also able to remember the value and position of the numbers in around half a second and complete the test with the numbers blanked out. The video at the BBC article is definitely worth watching – it appears that Ayumu’s skill is super human.
